VT River Report – 8/5/17

The Otter Creek tributaries like the New Haven River are in great shape. I guided 3 folks from NYC today in the Bristol area. Here is what we found.

Water was low, clear and 62 degrees. Wish we got more fish as it looked ideal. Air temp was 67 and we had over cast conditions at 6am. By 9:00 it was a slight drizzle. By the time we were walking back to the car at 10:45 it was raining pretty hard. It’s now 3 and the sun is out. We did not get enough rain to raise the river but hopefully it helps keep it cool.

Ryan landed two very nice wild Brook Trout on Golden Stone’s. He was using the Rock River Rods RR1 5wt. We had a thingamabobber an Olive Wolly Bugger and the Golden Stone was the second fly. Jamie caught a nice Bow on the Prince Nymph.

We used a bunch of Hopper Dropper set ups. Patrick and Jamie both had fish slash at the Hopper.  The rocks around the river are littered with Stonefly casings. We flipped some flat rocks in the water and found several chunky Golden Stones on the bottom.  Hot flies Golden Stones, Prince Nymph, Stimulators and the Fat Albert.
