Opening day weekend Report: April 11, 2021
Opening day was a little different than most this year. Both days were sunny with Air temps in the mid 70’s. Water are clear and levels are way below average. Water temps on the main stem of the Lamoille went from 45 in the morning to 47 in the afternoon. Mountain Tribs were 47. We generally see temps like that in late April and hope for 50 by early May.
Hook ups on the Lamoille were still as tough to come by as any other year and even more difficult to put one in the net. I finally ventured to a trib, mostly to scout a section that I haven’t been on in while. It was nice to beat the heat of the sun (that’s mid summer talk) I found very hungry brookies from 5-7 inches. I was able to fool them on the surface with and Ausable Wulff and below with a BHPT dropped off the wulff.
Conditions are as good as I’ve seen for this time of year. Clarity will remain the same, however levels will continue to drop due to days on end of no precipitation and non forecast until later this week. Water temps should continue to increase as we remain above average for air temps. this could be a more slow process where there is still a bunch of snow melt.
Don’t forget about our “Steel Deal “ still going on. The folks who have taken advantage of this deal so far have not put any in the net. Some have put a bend in the their rod only to have it come unbuttoned. All have learned techniques, strategies and flies to use that will make them more successful in the future and that is mostly what this deal is about.
