Still have guides available but book a trip soon! I think the fishing is going to really turn on and be hot very soon. Lots of different fish species to target and lots of trip options available.
Expect rain tonight as thunderstorms are rolling throughout Vermont! Then a higher chance Saturday afternoon/night but Sunday and Monday look perfect. 70’s and sunny! Hopefully we won’t get to much rain as we have some great fishing opportunities right now.

Some local rivers currently are still a bit high and have poor clarity others have totally dropped and have perfect clarity. When I have these options I tend to target either Trout or Bass in the higher water that’s stained a bit. I feel more confident I’m going to catch a large fish in those conditions compared to the lower gin clear water. Probably mostly because I prefer fishing big streamers.
Some hot flies I’d suggest for this weekend are the Muddy Buddy, Zoo Cougar, Circus Peanut, BZ Mickey Finn, and Zonkers in various colors. If you’re nymphing Golden Stones, PT Nymphs, Green Copper John’s,  Batman’s , Zug Bugs and Pats Rubber Legs. Might be good to have some Hendrickson’s, natural Hoppers and small Mice patterns in case it seems like fish are looking up. I’ve recently caught Largemouth Bass on top water in a pond but haven’t tried any dry flies in rivers yet. So much fun having a LMB toilet bowl around a Frog Pattern!

The Pike are definitely starting to wake up. A few days ago I got out and had several nice followers and landed one. Sometimes when I get a few follows but no eat I change flies. If it’s Spring or Fall I tend to downsize the fly a tad as the water is colder and they seem to like a smaller meal. This time of year the bait fish is generally smaller as well but a huge Pike have no problem eating a 18” White Sucker as well. As always when chasing toothy critters have a XXL net, pliers and all the proper gear.

Have you signed up for the Ditch Pickle Classic yet? More info at fishthepickle.com A bunch of our guides fish this tournament and it’s always a blast!
*Lost and found:-Lost a few days ago under the Fall in downtown Middlebury. A Fishpond pack full of flies and other gear.

*Did you lose a net this morning on Lewis? Shoot us a message for more info especially if you can help get the gear bank to the owners.
