February makes two months in a row of having a below average temperature. We’ve also had average snow which has been a few years. If you live in Vermont and don’t like 12” of ice on the lake and a great snow pack in the mountains, I hope you have better reasons for being here.
Over the past couple days, we have had some above freezing days and nights which has started to open up some spots on the rivers, giving us a glimmer of hope that spring will inevitably be coming.
Meanwhile, hot stove fly tying is really heating up. We have fly tying events every other Wednesday thru the winter and every once in awhile we change up venues. This past Wednesday we did some tippin and twistin at WhistlePig whiskeys great room.
We have been selling a bunch of gift certificates, and talking to folks about the spring fishing in Vermont. We start guiding as soon as the ice is gone and we have safe access to winter holding spots of trout. Typically by late March steelhead trout begin to spawn up tributaries of Lake Champlain for a little earlier season shot of adrenaline.
If you are looking to get the rust off, after this long winter or you would like to get a shot of adrenaline by learning early season strategy for lethargic winter trout and spring steelhead, give us a call. We love talking fishing.
