It has been very warm, as I’m sure you have notice if you live there n the NE. That, coupled with only a few shower has put some trout waters over 70. So as a catch and release outfitter, we leave trout in those conditions alone. Some parts of the state have been getting more rain in pop up thunderstorms than others. Those places could have better temps, so it always good to carry a thermometer.

Lucky we have other options here in Vermont. With mountain brooks and tributaries to Lake Champlain as well as inland ponds and lakes, we are never without a place to cast a line and put a bend in your rod.

When we have beginners, we always try to get them on water where they can learn to cast and have a chance to catch a bunch of species. Ponds are a great place for this . Most ponds hold many varieties of warm water species like bass, pike, pickerel and several species of pan fish. These fish are usually hungry so easy to catch than trout.
The mountain brooks hold a ton of brook trout which are mostly small , but a fun way to get out of the sun and cast dry flies to these eager beauties.
