Trout fishing on the large and mid sizes water has been a no go for the past week. We did have a couple of days last week where they dipped below 70, which gives hope to more of that as fall approaches. Alas, no rain and air temps at night only getting to the mid 60s pushed them right back over.
We do have a favorable forecast for the next 3 days with a decent amount of rain moving in. Lesser amounts forecasted for northern Vermont, still 1-2 inches of much needed rain. Amounts increase the farther south you go with 3-5 inches along the Mass.
Other than missing a couple of hatches, we are having fun guiding clients for warm water species as well as heading to the mountains for some cool water brook trout fishing.
This local high schooler has a passion for fly fishing. He has been throwing line for a few year and with C&R trout down for awhile, he hired us to learn how to pursue Northern Pike. Our guide, Brian Cadoret, arguably the best pike fisher in Vermont as well as a fun instructor. Brian had him casting 4-6 inch flies with a 8wt rod in no time, and the pictures speak for themselves.
Can’t stop having fun with guest staying at WhistlePig Rye Farm stay program. These are usually larger groups of beginners from all over the country. It’s so much fun to quickly teach people how to cast, then take them to a beautiful mountain stream to hook a few brookies on dry flies.
