We have had a great week of fly fishing. River conditions are in great shape and the fish catching is picking up. Minimal rain events have allowed watersheds to lower to average levels, and clear. Water temps are on the rise as well. Big rivers are in the mid 50’s , while mountain streams are in the low 50’s. The week ahead provides more opportunity for rain which is always welcome in moderate doses.
All of our services were in operation last week. A Large group trip with WhistlePig whiskey guests, 2 day fly fishing school for a husband and wife from South Carolina, 1/2 day trip for father and daughter and an extended half day for father and son. Most of these folks are beginners looking for an introduction to the sport, or in the case of the 2 day fly fishing school, they are looking to make fly fishing a part of life.
During the month of May all of the spring trout stocking gets done. So plenty of opportunities to get the rust off your casting and put a bend in your rod. We also start to get hatches that bring the fish to the surface to feed. Right know there are good hatches of Hendricks and tan caddis. Soon the best hatch of the spring will be March browns. Remember to have all phases of the life cycle of March Browns, as trout are at the height of feeding activity and eat all phases.
