Rocktober 13th, 2026

Rivers up and down the state are going to be getting a welcome dose of rain today. Maybe 1.5 inches. We have been waiting on this type of rain to get the flows up for fall spawners.

Even with low levels, the spawners have to spawn and we have been putting our clients on them. Brookie have been tough and we haven’t really been fishing for them as their flows are a trickle. The Browns and Landlocks have been willing to play, but nothing has been easy about.

Being stealthy is key during low water conditions. Fish are much more aware of their environment than most think. So approaching from down stream and making accurate casts have been the most successful method. Nymphing small flies  size 16-20 has been what they want.

We had a trip with 3 anglers new to fishing landlocked salmon have a fun day catching their first . All but 1 fish came on size 18 unweighted BWO emergers, bright yellow caddis pupa and copper John’s. Browns have been a similar story with some coming on white and beige streamers.

Catch and keep, trout season ends October 31st, but catch and release on most rivers is year round and as long as the ice doesn’t close the river. As November begins we start looking for opportunities to get after Lake Champlain lake trout

Give us a shout if you want to get out.
