Rocktober 5th, 2026

October is a tough month for me. There is still
great fishing for trout , bass and pike, but now there are other options. Landlocked salmon are on the spawning run out of Lake Champlain and other inland lakes, plus a new hunting season seems to be opening every week.

This is my favorite time of year. Leaves are changing fast. We have had cool days/nights so no need to check water temperatures they’re all good. We have a number of spawning species so we could use some more rain to urge them in to tributaries. Plus with all the hunting opportunities, I can definitely play the weather to have the best chance of success.

Rivers continue to be low. We’ve been getting rain, but not enough to budge the gages or even stain the water. Fishing has been decent though. Not to much to speak  of for hatches. This past weekend browns and rainbows were mostly caught on Iso nymph patterns. Fish love Iso’s even after the hatch has tailed off. Blue wing olives are what you more likely to see,  as they are mostly the last hatch that will bring fish to the surface. It’s good to have all phases covered of BWO for the remainder of October.
Let us know if you want to enjoy the foliage and the fishing that still to come in October
