As most of us know, having a little flask of whiskey in your vest while casting a fly on a peaceful stretch of stream is a great moment of the day. After all, whiskey and fly fishing go hand in hand.
We have a great partnership with WhistlePig Whiskey Co. They are located in Shoreham Vermont. We take their guests, who are staying at the farm, to a near by stream for a fun afternoon of learning to fly fish. WhislePig in turn treats wonderfully. Recently they hosting a fly tying night for us in their great room, complete with appetizers and their signature whiskey cocktails.
We appreciate their hospitality and smooth whiskey.
Guide Fly of the week: Ausable Wulff
I tied Ausable Wulffs at the WhistlePig event because Where I come from in SE Pennsylvania, we commonly called groundhogs whistle pigs due to the high pitched whistle they would make to alert others of danger. "Wulff" patterns were introduced in the Adirondack of New York by a legendary fly tier, Fran Betters. These patterns are all tied using only feathers and fur, and for the tails of this particular pattern he would use whistle pig tail fibers.
